• Rubber: The natural rubber is extracted from the hevea brasiliensis tree by ethical "ostracing" (removing the milky sap from the bark). Thus, the trees are never damaged during the production of Cariuma shoes.
• Organic cotton: Organic farming protects workers, soil and water from toxic pesticides. The cotton used by the Cariuma brand is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard.
• Cork: Cork is a natural and sustainable material. To obtain it, it must be carefully scraped from the cork tree so that the tree remains intact and can form new bark.
• Mamona oil: Mamona is a plant-based and organic alternative to petroleum.
• Recycled PET: The vast majority of plastics used in Cariuma shoes, laces, tags and threads come from recycled plastic bottles. Recycling, reducing and repurposing is the only responsible way forward. Cariuma is certified by the Global Recycled Standard.
• Leather and suede: Leather and suede are responsibly sourced in Argentina, Thailand, Brazil or China. None of the premium materials come from the Amazon or any area deforested for cattle farming. 100% of the water used for the leather and suede in Cariuma shoes is recycled and reused.
• Box: The box and paper protecting the shoes are made from 100% recycled.
• Chemical dyes: The Cariuma brand has chosen bluesign®-certified substances to dye the materials. Working with bluesign® also helps the factory operate more efficiently, reduces water consumption and helps control pollution
